Guys' Night Out

Once a year the men from First Church gather for an evening of fellowship and a program. Enjoy a great time of games and conversations as well as a grilled steak dinner. This years event will be held at Sertoma Park.

The charge is $10 per person and all men and boys in the church and surrounding towns are invited and welcome. Reservations need to be made so that enough food can be planned on for everyone. A great time of fellowship, a delicious meal and an informational and inspiring program all come together to provide a rich experience for all involved.

Join us on Tuesday, August 27th at 6 pm for our "Stockyards Ag Experience, "a one hour tour and discussion at the Falls Park horse barn. They ask for a donation, so let's try to be generous. After our time at the horse barn we can walk to the Overlook Cafe for ice cream.  (We learned that the kitchen closes at 7, so dinner is not available.)

Please RSVP to Mary Lu & Dennis Green at Dennis Green at greendm@midco.net or Jane & Gary Healy  at jheitman22@hotmail.com

For a preview, see the Stockyards Ag Experience website: http://www.stockyardsagexperience.org/

Shrove Tuesday Flapjack Follies

The Chancel Choir of First United Methodist Church, 401 S. Spring, is hosting their annual Shrove Tuesday Flapjack Follies.  The choir members will be serving pancakes ‘with all the fixins’ from 4:30 – 6:30 on Shrove Tuesday, March 5th.

For 29 years this Shrove Tuesday tradition of serving pancakes by the church chancel choir has benefited  selected non-profits. The Lowell Elementary band program and the Kidstop after-school program at First Church will receive the pancake proceeds this year. There will be entertainment in true Dixieland and Mardi Gras style during the serving times.

The ticket prices to eat these yummy pancakes are adults - $5, ages 3 to 12 - $3, and younger than 3 are free.  Tickets may be purchased by contacting the First Church office at 336-3652 or ‘at the door’.

Trip to see the Capitol Christmas Trees

LET’S TAKE A TRIP TO SEE THE CHRISTMAS TREES

The More Who Join In, the Merrier and Less Cost

WHERE:At the Capitol Building in Pierre, South Dakota

WHEN:Saturday, December 15th, 2018

WHO:Everyone and Anyone who wants to join our trip

WHY:Many people in our church have said to me, “Let’s go see the Christmas Trees at the Capitol again!”

HOW:There is a sign-up form to enter your name at the Information/Welcome Center in our church lobby. Please sign up as soon as you know you want to join in on this trip to Pierre.  Write your name clearly and your phone number and e-mail if you have one.  All are welcome to join in on this trip including guests of our members.  All ages are welcome, also.  Wonderful educational opportunity to see our beautiful Capitol and the Heritage Museum.

MORE INFORMATION:

We have reserved a 55-passenger bus of School Bus Charters. It is a nice bus with a bathroom and comfortable seating. The more passengers we have, the less the cost per person.

COST:55 passengers = $32. per person

50 passengers = $34. per person

45 passengers = $38. per person

40 passengers = $43. per person

35 passengers = $49. Per person

AND:If we have 34 passengers, we will use a 34-passenger bus rather than the 55-passenger bus. The 34-passenger bus is just as nice as the larger one and the cost per person will be $45.(30 people = $50.)

PAYMENT:When we know how many people are definitely going, you will be contacted as to what you will pay.

DEADLINE DATES:

December 9th – Your name must be signed on the form to go.

December 13th – the date your money must be in the church’s “hands”.  Either cash or a check made to FUMC – Bus Trip (you must be very clear about this.)

AGENDA:All food will be on your own.  We will leave at 8:30 AM that Saturday morning (from FUMC 401 S. Spring Ave.), December 15th.  Will stop to see the new Dignity sculpture by Chamberlain. Eat at Al’s Oasis for a late breakfast or early lunch or snack.  Proceed on down the road and have a ‘potty stop’ along the way at a nice gas station. When we reach Pierre, we will go immediately to see the Trees – there will be bathrooms there. Will most likely stay for 2 - 3 hours – will gauge this with you all.  We will stop for a fast-food early dinner at a place in Pierre. And then we will head home – singing along the way. You are welcome to bring food and beverages with you.  We will have snacks and bottled water on the bus.  NOTE: Possible stop at the Heritage Museum – cost:  $3.00 – (before the tree viewing).

QUESTIONS:Ask Carol Flynn – 338-1421      cflynn@sio.midco.net

ONE MORE IMPORTANT MESSAGE: If you think you will not be at our Methodist Church before December 9th to sign up for this bus trip, call the church at 336-3652 or me Carol Flynn at 338-1421 and tell whoever answers that you want to sign up for the bus trip – or leave a message.
