AMen's study "God Heard Their Cry" wk 4

As God's plan of deliverance from Egypt for the Israelites unfolded, He began their "basic training," cultivating for Himself a people marked by shalom through obedience to His kingship. The very route they took out of Egypt illustrates this testing. Join Israel as God leads them through the dangers of the Red Sea, and allow your own heart to be tested

Trip to see the Capital Christmas Trees

LET’S TAKE A TRIP TO SEE THE CHRISTMAS TREES

The More Who Join In, the Merrier and Less Cost

WHERE:            At the Capitol Building in Pierre, South Dakota

WHEN:               Saturday, December 15th, 2018

WHO:                 Everyone and Anyone who wants to join our trip

WHY:                  Many people in our church have said to me, “Let’s go see the Christmas Trees at the Capitol again!”

HOW:                 There is a sign-up form to enter your name at the Information/Welcome Center in our church lobby. Please sign up as soon as you know you want to join in on this trip  to Pierre.  Write your name clearly and your phone number and e-mail if you have one.  All are welcome to join in on this trip including guests of our members.  All ages are welcome, also.  Wonderful educational opportunity to see our beautiful Capitol.

You can also call the church office at 605.336.3652 to reserve your seat.

MORE INFORMATION:

We have reserved a 55-passenger bus of School Bus Charters. It is a nice bus with a bathroom and comfortable seating. The more passengers we have, the less the cost per person.

COST:                55 passengers = $32. per person

                           50 passengers = $34. per person

                             45 passengers = $38. per person

                             40 passengers = $43. per person

                             35 passengers = $49. Per person

AND:                  If we have 34 passengers, we will use a 34-passenger bus rather than the 55-passenger bus. The 34-passenger bus is just as nice as the larger one and the cost per person will be $45.(30 people = $49.)

PAYMENT:       When we know how many people are definitely going, you will be contacted as to what you will pay.

DEADLINE DATES:

December 1st – Your name must be signed on the form to go.

December 8th – the date your money must be in the church’s “hands”.  Either cash or a check made to FUMC – Bus Trip (you must be very clear about this.)

AGENDA:         All food will be on your own.  We will leave at 8:30 AM that Saturday morning, December 15th.  Will stop to see the new Dignity sculpture by Chamberlain. Eat at Al’s Oasis for a late breakfast or early lunch or snack.  Proceed on down the road and have a ‘potty stop’ along the way at a nice gas station. When we reach Pierre, we will go immediately to see the Trees – there will be bathrooms there. Will most likely stay for 2 - 3 hours – will gauge this with you all.  We will stop for a fast-food early dinner at a place in Pierre. And then we will head home – singing along the way. You are welcome to bring food and beverages with you.  We will have snacks and bottled water on the bus.

QUESTIONS:   Ask Carol Flynn – 338-1421      cflynn@sio.midco.net

Or  tap me on the shoulder at church – or yell CAROL!!

ONE MORE IMPORTANT MESSAGE: If you think you will not be at our Methodist Church before December 1st to sign up for this bus trip, call the church at 336-3652 or me Carol Flynn at 338-1421 and tell whoever answers that you want to sign up for the bus trip – or leave a message.

AMen's study "God Heard Their Cry" wk 3

The Lord defied the gods of Egypt with mighty displays of power so that Israel, Egypt, Pharaoh, and ultimately the entire world would see the strength of the one and only God. Pharaoh hardened his heart, but the Israelites responded to the power of their God and, in gratitude, left Egypt and their oppression behind. Follow the Israelites as they submit to God's invitation to join His story.

AMen's study "God Heard Their Cry" wk 1

The exodus from Egypt was a metaphor for God's greater redemption story, the restoration of shalom from the chaos of the evil one. His purpose was to invite Israel into a greater story than the one of their bondage, eventually unveiling a plan of restoration for the whole world. The question today is: whose story will you believe and live by? In this lesson, unpack God's plan to eradicate chaos in the context of the exodus, and build on the exodus experiences in your own life.

I will be there, save me a seat!

DAKOTAS HUNGER GRANTS – Last year we distributed more than $11,000 to 17 programs serving free, hot meals in communities across the Dakotas.

UMCOR WORLD HUNGER AND POVERTY PROGRAM - Through the World Hunger/Poverty program, the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) not only supplies food for hungry people, but also helps poor countries move forward with development. Seeds, tools and training are provided to enable people to grow their own food. This program combines immediate crisis relief (food, clothing and medical supplies) with long-term solutions (clean water, immunizations, enhanced agriculture and advocacy for appropriate public policies) to bring hope to people in despair.  In the US, UMCOR assists states and communities through disaster relief efforts.  And ALL donations go directly to the designated UMCOR project; there are NO administrative costs applied to donations.  For more information, go to http://www.umcor.org/.

UMC GLOBAL HEALTH - Global Ministries’ vision of abundant health for all focuses on efforts to promote physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. The Global Health unit aims to “create abundant health in economically vulnerable communities by protecting children and disadvantaged adults from preventable causes of death and disease.” To achieve this we partner with thousands of communities and health workers through our community-based health programs, while also supporting more than 300 United Methodist hospitals and clinics throughout the world.

Serve Banquet West Location

The Banquet meal ministry was founded in 1985 starting with just one meal per week. They now serve 13 meals per week at two locations. The Banquet is a volunteer-based ministry, which means the meals are paid for, prepared by, and served by volunteer groups who come from Sioux Falls and the surrounding area.

In 2017 The Banquet served 196,000 meals, and at least 25,000 of those meals were served to children under 12. We go through approximately 15,000 gallons of milk each year.

Serve Nightwatch

We are now serving once a month at the Hayward Elementary School parking lot.  Along with other organizations we serve every Monday evening dinner from 5:30 - 6:30 pm.  90% of the meals are served to children in the neighborhood as their parents are working multiple jobs to make ends meet.

Email Breanna White if you can help serve and/or prepare meals for this event.

Serve at The Banquet downtown

The Banquet asks for 6-8 cooks at 5:30 AM (Yes, AM is correct - quoting Shirley Erickson, "once you are up, this is kind of fun.")  They also ask for 18-20 servers at 6:30 AM.  If you have an interest in this ministry of the Banquet and FUMC, consider joining a great group as we serve our community in downtown Sioux Falls (corner of 8th and Indiana). We would love to have you subscribe to our mailing list below so you can stay up to date on all of our Banquet activities.  Contact Gary if you have any questions.

SALSA

If you are — or are not — a member of First Church, and you are a Single Adult Lady Seeking Adventure with other Single Adult Ladies Seeking Adventure — then you need to read this article. (No men may apply! This article is not for you whether single or not!)
SALSA is for those of us seeking to meet other single ladies — of any age — to have some adventures. Now don’t get too concerned about the word ‘adventures’ because the
limit could be lunch and playing a few hands of cards! Or who knows what we as a group might dream up.  Let’s meet for the first time this fall on Saturday, Sept 15, 12:30 p.m. at the All Day Cafe on 41st Street. Lunch will be on you, and then how about playing 9 Holes (Hands) of Golf (the card game). It’s easy, and I promise it is fun to learn right on the spot.
I suppose I should know if you are planning to come so call me, Carol Flynn (one of those single ladies) at 338-1421 or e-mail me at: cflynn@sio.midco.net and I will be there to greet you.
