Stewardship.

Dear First Church Friends and Family,

"Giving Is Living - In God We Trust" as a theme for this year's Stewardship Campaign recognizes that this last year has been a turbulent time of economic uncertainty. A little over a year ago many of us thought we were financially secure. Jobs, pay checks investments, retirement accounts...all of which we had faith in, no longer seem quite so trustworthy. And even though economic recovery may be under way, we still are hesitant and lack confidence when it comes to making a pledge for 2010.

More than in some other years, making a pledge for your giving to church is an act of faith. We can hear the words of the writer of Proverbs who says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart;" but our hearts remain fearful. As the 2010 Financial Stewardship Campaign comes to its completion, thank you for your financial commitment to the ministries of our Church through your faithfulness in giving this last year. We celebrate the fact that projections by our treasurer indicate we will finish 2009 in sound fiscal shape.

For 2010 we are trying to hold a flat budget with no staff salary increases or programming jumps. Any budget increases are caused by fixed operating costs. Still, in order to meet this projected budget and maintain our present staffing and programs, our overall pledges for 2010 will need to increase by 9%.

A part of Christian stewardship is to trust that God will not abandon us, and God will provide when we faithfully act on the understanding that "giving is living." We encourage you to make your pledge trusting in God's providence. Don't decide what you can't do because of the economy, but decide what you will try to do with God's help. Please understand that a church pledge may be adjusted as the year progresses. You can increase your giving during the year...or decrease your pledge if it becomes necessary.

We urge you to prayerfully consider what you will pledge this coming year trusting in God. Please spend some time in prayer before you make your decision about your "giving and living."

Consecration Sunday will be November 1st. During all three worship services we will consecrate our commitments as we place those cards on the altar. Commitment cards will be available that weekend if you forget yours. Should you not be able to bring your commitment card to God for consecration on November 1st, please drop it by the church office or return it by mail promptly so your committed gifts can be consecrated with those received on Consecration Sunday.

You can also make your commitment here by filling out the form below. Or you can print the PDF file(s) below, then fill those form(s) out and give to us at the church.

Thank you for your faithful support of the ministry of First Church.

Yours in Christ,
Stewardship Chair Bob Baker & Pastor Bill Bates
