Laurie Kidd, Worship, Music & Fine Arts Pastor
Laurie Kidd was born in Kansas City, MO, where she grew up and was baptized in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ. She participated in vocal choirs, handbell choirs, youth groups at church, as well as volleyball, softball, choral music concerts, and more school activities. After graduation, she studied at William Jewell College in Liberty, MO, where she pursued a degree in Church Music with an Emphasis in Voice. After college, Laurie worked part-time in her home church in Raytown, MO, as the organist/accompanist and full time in the secretarial field. Something was missing..there was always that feeling that she should be doing more in the church. So in 1994 she became the full-time Music and Drama Minister within her church. While she enjoyed this position, she still felt there was something more. In May of 2000, Laurie received a call from Randy Hogarth, Senior Pastor at First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, SD. After several phone interviews and visiting the church, staff and choirs, she was offered the position of Music Minster in August 2000. While Laurie's duties are quite varied, some of her responsibilities include: directing adult and youth vocal choirs, handbell choirs, drama ministry, as well as overseeing four children's choir ministries and the organists/pianists within the church. Laurie is a member of Women's Circle and Ad Board. Some major events that Laurie has overseen are dinner theaters, dramas/plays, special service music and dramas, handbell and choral concerts, Shrove Tuesday events, and much..much..more. Laurie feels The Lord has led her to First UMC and this is definitely where she feels she needs to be. She is excited to share her music and drama blessings. "Every day is full of new things and surprises, but worth every moment", says Laurie
